The North Country Animal League is the animal shelter and adoption organization for Lamoille County. Tektonika Studio Architects became involved early in this project with site selection and program development. As a new building type for Tektonika Studio Architects, extensive research was conducted to understand and optimize layout, functionality, and finish requirements. A site was selected on Route 100 in Morrisville, which included an existing building on-site.

The new design extended out from this building to include a public lobby/reception area, cat and dog holding areas, exam rooms, and staff rooms. The existing building was renovated to become the administrative space for the organization. The building type required enhanced mechanical systems specific to the air quality requirements for animal and human occupied spaces. All animal-holding areas had special requirements incorporating very durable materials and cages, subject to high pressure daily cleaning. The project succeeded in creating an inviting environment and a functional operation for the animals, staff and visitors.
