Green Mountain Home

‘This mountain home is located at the base of a Vermont ski area. The layout of the house is influenced by the proximity of adjacent lots and to skiers on the nearby slopes in combination with magnificent views to the south and west. The massing of the house is divided into three pods comprised of a garage, the main living spaces and a bedroom wing which step down with the site topography. These elements bend around to form and arc which provides a sense of enclosure and privacy and at the same time embracing the immediate mountain views. The connecting elements between these pods serve as exterior rooms partially enclosed by the abutting building forms. Upon entering the front entry foyer one moves down into the living room with windows and views directly ahead. The semi- formal living room is separated by a wall from the open plan kitchen and dining room. At both sides the connecting links provide the vertical circulation through the house. Above the garage is a home office which could also serve as a guest suite. Maintaining the design requirements of the development, the house expresses a European alpine feel in combination with Adirondack mountain elements. The materials of cedar, copper, stone and timber are reflective of this style.
