Dewey Hill House

This home is located on a steep narrow lot with a line of focused views to Green Mountain peaks in the distance. The house is arranged with the garage to one side and a combination mud room and formal entry acting as a bridge to the main house. The design concept was a mountain home with modern accents emphasizing natural materials. The main level is arranged as an open plan with transparency between the kitchen, dining room and living room providing views through these rooms to the exterior. The south is exposed to the sun with large doors and windows, while the north is composed with smaller openings and the stair and fireplace elements. Natural materials prevail on both the interior and exterior of the house. The granite fireplace is a unifying element through all levels of the house where there is wood stove at the lower level and a fireplace at both the living room and the upper level master bedroom. The design provides living and sleeping flexibility within a limited building footprint. Family bedrooms are placed at the upper level with an additional guest room and a recreation room provided at the lower walk out level. There is a living space above the garage which can serve as guest space or a small apartment with its own entrance from the exterior.
